"Pam friends age 50 and above speak the mother tongue among themselves casually and together in local council meetings, otherwise, they speak Fulfulde. Young people speak French with each other more than they speak Fulfulde. [...] The young people have mixed emotions about the Pam language—they are both proud and ashamed of it. They also disdain Fulfulde, referring to it as a language of peasants."
