Language in the Community
Minahasan Languages and Culture
The videos uploaded to this channel are the result of collaboration between Dr Timothy Brickell () of The Endangered Languages Documentation Programme () at The School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS), University of London and The School of Languages and Linguistics at The University of Melbourne, and community members from the Minahasa and Minahasa Tenggara districts of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. These videos seek to showcase the interesting languages and culture, friendly people, and fantastic food from this part of the world. The indigenous Minahasan languages are no longer being learnt by children and will most likely die out within a generation or two. It is hoped that these videos will renew interest in these languages and promote traditional Minahasan cultural practices.
