This link will connect you to David Filbeck’s article; “Rice in a Grammar of T’in.” Filbeck’s article identifies one of the problems that is associated with the task of reconstructing the grammatical structure of the Lua’/Pray language. The article identifies that the Lua’/Pray language has five nouns and six verbs that are used to refer to the concept of rice as it goes through various stages of cultivation. The concept of rice presents linguists with the difficulty of reconstructing the grammatical structure of the Lua’/Pray language, because it is not the case that all of the nouns pertaining to the concept of rice are compatible with all of the verbs pertaining to rice. So, an individual must know the noun and the verb that should be used for each instance in order to be able to express the concept of rice in the Lua’/Pray language. Unfortunately, the article uses the Mal dialect of the T’in language. However, Filbeck acknowledges that the phenomenon is present for the Lua’/Pray language as well.
