"In 2008, rough estimates based on population figures, would put the number of speakers throughout the region at 8000-10 000. Further investigation is needed."
The Oued Righ region has lost some Amazigh/Berber-speaking villages. Tahshanit/Tarighit is spoken in the villages of Temacine (mainly Tamellaht near the lake), Blidet Amor, Ghomra, and Meggarine. There are marked dialectal differences between the villages. Amazigh/Berber is not spoken in the city of Touggourt itself. (Mattouchi, 2021)
