Halo koa gamu doduru!
My name is Peter Sasabule and I am from Munda in Roviana, Solomon Islands.
Language is an integral part of cultural identity and is vital in the representation of a culture. Roviana is an Austronesian language spoken in the New Georgia region that is slowly endangered similarly to what other indigenous languages are currently facing worldwide.
The main goal of my language documentation work is to preserve and record cultural narratives that plays a vital role in the preservation of the Roviana Language. Here I am sharing a short video of a custom story that is usually told as a lullaby for children in the past. It was told by my Aunt and is about Kokiroko, a god that was believed to be the patron of lullabies. Leana hola.
