Welcome to Country: Curtin Elder-in-Residence Assoc Prof Simon Forrest
A traditional Aboriginal blessing, the Welcome to Country symbolises the traditional owners' consent to an event taking place on their land. Associate Professor Simon Forrest, a Wadjuk Nyungar man and Curtin's Elder-in-Residence, explains the ritual as he performs a 'smoking ceremony'. A Welcome to Country is performed at all major events at Curtin, acknowledging the Nyungar people as the traditional owners of the land upon which the university sits.
