Indigenous Cognition: Functioning in Cultural Context
The article provided is an excerpt from a book written by authors J.W. Berry, S.H. Irvine and E.G. Hunt discussing developmental cognitive skills, including linguistics, associated with various indigenous groups of populations. In regards to the Bangandu people, the authors embellish upon the interdependence of the Bangandu community. From a young age, the Bangandu people are conditioned to value and rely upon the community in which they are raised. This aspect of the Bangandu community lends to the isolation of the Bangandu language only spoken in remote parts of Southern Cameroon.
