In this video, I'm singing one of my favorite hymnals, "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah," written by William Williams, and translated into the Navajo Language by John Charles. To see the lyrics, you have to have annotations turned on! Below the Navajo lyrics are a literal translation of the words into English, rather than a re-iteration of the English lyrics. I like resurrecting old songs. This song was originally written in the Welsh language, by William Williams in 1745. It was translated into English by Peter Williams. It was set to music by Thomas Hastings. Interestingly, this song was sung in English at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, in Westminster Abbey, London, September 6, 1997. The style of the song presented here is taken from that recorded by the Cherokee Nation in their 2000 Cherokee National Holiday Gospel CD. Their version, sung in the Cherokee language, can be downloaded from their website for free in mp3 at www.cherokee.org. Enjoy and God Bless!
