There are relatively few child speakers. Until recently, Azerbaijani, Georgian and Russian were used exclusively in school, and they continue to be used for wider communication.

Literary experiments took place in the nineteenth century, in the 1930s, and again in recent years.

The Udis have no written language of their own, but instead use Russian or Georgian.

The information that mentions that Udis don’t have a written language is partly true, however a mention of Caucasian Albanian (Udis are descendants of Cauc. Albanians) script has been in use until VIIIth century and the attempts at the revival of this ancient script have been in 1930s.
