The Hodinohso:nih (People of the Longhouse) traditionally lived along the Mohawk River valley and around the Finger Lakes district in present-day New York State. The Ganye gehó:no (Mohawk people or Keepers of the Eastern Door) lived between the Allegheny and Catskill Mountains.
