The moraic theory proposed by J. McCarthy & A. Prince ("Prosodic Morphology," manuscript, U Massachusetts, Amherst, & Brandeis U, 1986) provides the basis for an analysis of reduplication processes in Kwakiutl, a language of British Columbia. It is argued that this apparent case of reduplication should be analyzed as the result of a copying process triggered by the moraic requirement of some affixes. The influence of affixes on the internal structure of stems is also discussed. 7 References. B. Annesser Murray
