In Finland, Olonetsian is spoken by people evacuated, in 1940 and 1944, from former Finnish territories north of Lake Ladoga including Salmi and Impilahti counties, currently the eastern parts of
Pitkyaranta (Pitka¨ranta) County and the southern corner of Suoyarvi (Suoja¨rvi) County in the Republic of Karelia.
